It's a Diversity Committee Happy Hour!

Last week, the union’s Diversity Committee unveiled the Guild’s first-ever union-wide diversity and inclusion census. It’s a big deal for our Local and our industry. And now we want to celebrate and discuss the census and its importance — how it can impact contract negotiations and help to change workplace culture — with all of you!

Please join us on Feb. 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at STITCH Bar (main floor) for a Guild-wide Mixer to celebrate the release of our census. Have a drink or two, grab a snack, and meet members of the Guild’s Diversity Committee. We represent a lot of units, including The Times, The Nation, Consumers Reports, Law360 and The New Yorker, just to name a few. We’re always looking to add new faces and units to the mix.

So don’t forget to bring your colleagues! If you haven’t completed the census yet, you’ll be able to do so on-site. The confidential survey is designed to collect the data necessary to help the Guild make our newsrooms and our workplaces better reflect our communities. More powerfully, it will provide us with a broad baseline against which to measure the results of employer efforts to hire, retain and promote traditionally underrepresented groups in our workplaces.

We’ll be talking about next steps, including how we intend to hold employers accountable with the anonymized data we collect. But most importantly, we want to hear from you. Come ask questions about the census and your union or share ideas and experiences.
